Michelle Obama took a lot of flack for a comment she made about being proud of her country for the first time, a comment that was taken out of context and exploited by everyone from John McCain’s heiress wife to most of Fox News. The full quote:
“For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country. Not just because Barack is doing well, but I think people are hungry for change.”
So who comes to her defense? None other than Laura Bush. Yes, the one that’s married to the worst president in the history of the United States.
From the Chicago Tribune:
In an interview last week with ABC, Bush said, “I think she probably meant ‘I’m more proud,’ you know, is what she really meant.” She said comments in a campaign are closely watched and can be misconstrued.
We should give credit to someone willing be honest, rather than use something like this for political gain. And that goes for both sides– it’s not as if the Democrats are completely innocent in this.
Laura Bush, apparently you’re human after all.
