And you thought the CNN debates were bad.

This entire debate was almost entirely consumed by tired, stupid horse-race talking points. Now, I realize that 90% of politics also consists of stupid, horse-race talking points, but this was especially infuriating for two reasons.

Teetering on the Edge of Disaster

From today’s New York Times:

Since 1913, the United States witnessed only one other year of such unequal wealth distribution — 1928, the year before the stock market crashed, according to Jared Bernstein, a senior fellow at the Economic Policy Institute in Washington.

The year they are referring to? This year. The article deals with hedge funds. You know there is going to be a problem when people on Wall Street are frightened at how much money these people are making.

Good News and Better News from the Gallup Poll

The good news first: Both Obama and Clinton hold an identical small lead over John “Old Man Flip-Flop” McCain, 46% to 44% according to the latest Gallup poll.

The better news: Obama now leads Clinton by 11%, which is the largest lead he has enjoyed this year. This survey was conducted after Obama made a reasonable comment, and Clinton and McCain joined forces to chastise him for making the assumption that Americans are not as stupid as lobbyists and demagogues would care to believe.
